Week 4 - 2 Pounds

This week went pretty good. We're going to do some things to adjust my diet and exercise in the next few weeks just to get closer to my goal. I'm in 2nd place in the competition and I don't like that at all. So hopefully with the adjustments I can get into that 1st place position.

I'm pretty shocked with my progress so far. We took measurements before I started and we measured again yesterday. Here are the results:

Neck ~ -1/4 inch
Chest ~ -2 inches
Waist (2 inches below belly button)~ -3 inches
Waist (at widest spot) ~ -3 inches
Hips~ -4 inches
Thighs~ -1 inch
Calf~ -1/2 inch
Bicep~ -1/2 inch
Butt~ -2 1/2 inches

Total inches lost = 16 3/4

I can't believe there are only 6 weeks left of my competition. I hope I can get to lower than my goal weight but if not I'm happy with whatever I get to.

5 Months

How did my baby go from this...

To this....

First time eating rice cereal. He doesn't really like it but seems really interested when we are eating our food so I thought I'd give it a try.
He was so interested in this lovely chew toy that stayed right where he could reach it. Tray was really excited that Dylan had a tie that matched his.

 Mustache March

Sadly the thumb sucking hasn't lasted. I don't know what it is about a baby sucking their thumb, but it just melts my heart! Maybe it's the chubby little fist in front of those cute chubby cheeks.

His favorite toy. I love how he has his horse wrapped in his arm and chewing on it.

I just love this boy so much!!! I could honestly just sit and kiss him all day long.
He is my most cuddly baby by far and I love it!!!
He still isn't sleeping through the night. He gets up between 3 and 4 and then again between 7 and 8. Not too bad but I wouldn't mind sleeping all night myself.
I'm still nursing and this is the longest I've ever nursed any of my kids. I'm going to start to wean him before we go on our trip.
He loves to babble and it's so fun to listen to him make noise.
He loves loves loves to jump in his bouncer.
He has a hard time being left home with Dad while I go to work. But he's getting better.
I can't wait to see what the next 7 months brings. We love having Dylan in our family.

Week 3 - 1 Pound

Not a great week. I'm only 1 pound off track of 3 pounds a week but it's still hard to have such a small number lost. It was really hard to get back on track since the hospital. It took me until Wednesday to really be motivated to really put some heart into my workouts.
Although I didn't really cheat on my diet by eating foods not on the list, I ate a little more than what my serving should have been. No thanks to my new favorite food, honey Greek yogurt. I honestly bought 2 24oz containers on Thursday and they were gone Saturday. And Travis only had 1 cup, the rest was all me!!!
I'm determined to get back on track this week and stay there!!!!
My workouts started out blah this week and ended great! I can feel my stamina increasing as well as my strength. I got sore for the first time on Saturday when I did level 3 of Jillian. I decided to save that one for next month to do again. I about died and I can still feel it today. I've become obsessed with ab workouts! I've been doing them almost every night. Most likely because it's the lowest impact thing I do!!!

Week 2 - 3 Pounds

Week 2 was rough with Dylan having to be in the hospital. I didn't get a chance to send my weight in for the competition so I got a big 0 for the week but I lost 3 pounds when I weighed myself today.

I'm already down a pant size and they're getting a little baggy in the bum!

Monday I had major sugar cravings. I was dying. I have become so ornery and miserable without it. I hope to be able to work through this though and maybe it will become better with time.

Tuesday I had an epiphany as to why I was so hungry the week before. I wasn't eating enough for my lunch. I was shorting myself of carbs. Once I figured that out, I haven't felt hungry since.

Saturday I started the day off healthy but eating at the hospital with no way to really measure and weigh my food was hard. I tried to pick the healthiest choices from the menu and besides my cinnamon roll I did pretty good for the situation I was in. Travis did make some trips to home and the grocery store to get healthy treats for us too.

Exercise- I started the week off great. I was able to get through my workouts without much problem and felt really energized. But once again being in the hospital made it so I didn't get to work out for 3 days.

I'm hoping to get back on track this week. Hopefully I didn't lose too much ground with our hospital trip. I was honestly more worried about getting my baby healthy and back home than I was about my diet.

So here's to week 3 and getting back on track.

Oh I forgot to mention my goal for the end of 10 weeks. 25 pounds. So only 15 more to go!!!!

Sicky Sick!

All my kids have been sick the past week. Tray first, then Kinlee, now Dylan. And isn't it so lovely that what they were passing along is RSV. Dylan got the worst of it and had to be put in the hospital.
He started Thursday with a cough. Then Friday he was so miserable. I almost didn't take him in to the doctor because I wasn't sure if he just had a cold or if it was RSV. I watched a few videos on YouTube of RSV kids and how their breathing sounded and I knew that he had it. I still wasn't sure if going to the doctor was worth it though because I wasn't sure of what they do to treat RSV. I knew it was a virus so I knew they can't give you medicine for it. Travis encouraged me to go to the doctor to see if they could do a breathing treatment or anything for him though.
I'm glad I went. He tested positive for RSV. They checked his oxygen levels and did a breathing treatment and sent me home with a prescription to go to the ER throughout the night for more treatments and suctioning.
We went to the ER around 10 that night before we went to bed for a treatment and came home. Dylan did pretty good through the night but when he woke up Saturday at 5 to eat he was struggling. So I took him back into the ER around 6:30 and the Respiratory Therapist was there. She checked his oxygen and it was 83%. Pretty low. She suctioned him, did a breathing treatment, and suctioned again. She told me that if we were more comfortable to just have D admitted we could do that so he could be monitored. I went home and talked to Travis about it and we decided that might be a good idea. We took the other kids up to my mom's to stay just in case we had to spend the night.

When we got back to the ER around 3 his oxygen was at 88 and he was dehydrated. They called the doctor and he decided to admit him for observation.

Saturday night was bad. He had a hard time breathing with all the snot and had to be suctioned out a lot.

Sunday morning we had hopes of going home. We were just staying for observation to see if he started having wet diapers and didn't need to be suctioned out too many times.

We took him off his oxygen to see if he could handle breathing on his own.
He didn't make it 10 minutes before his levels dropped and couldn't get back up again. So the tubes came back on. He looks so sad and swollen from his IV fluids.
Such a sad face! Not long after this picture Dylan took a bad turn. He had a hard time breathing and they couldn't get his airway to stay cleared. We got an x-ray done of his chest, did a deep suction, a breathing treatment, and a dose of steroids. Luckily he did not have pneumonia. The steroids helped so much and luckily we only had to do one more breathing treatment before bed.

Getting some snuggle time with mom.

Monday - Dylan had a great night. He stated eating really good and having frequent wet diapers. They took him off of oxygen around 8 and other than having a small breathing treatment he has done great on his own. The saddest part was when they had to take a blood sample and the first lady blew his vein out and they had to draw it from his foot.
We're just sitting around waiting for the doctor to come give us the ok to head home. I'm sure Dylan is dying to get out of here I know I am. And I miss my other kiddos.

Take Me Away!

My motivation for working out (besides winning $200)

We're going here in a few weeks! I gotta get my body ready to be in a swimsuit so I don't get mistaken for a beached whale!

I can't wait to lay out by the pool next to Travis while reading a good book. Maybe I'll even get to swim with the dolphins!

Week 1 - 7 pounds

I'm so excited to be on a healthy journey that I thought I'd blog about each week so I can look back to see how far I've come. These posts will be long and pretty boring so I won't feel bad if no one reads them.

My sister volunteered to be my trainer. I'm kinda her guinea pig. I was scared. She trained to be in a fitness competition last year and I knew the diet she was on was brutal!! I prepared myself for the worst. When she gave me my diet information and I've studied it, it really isn't that hard. It's actually a lot of food to eat in the course of a day. A lot more than I have been eating.

The only thing that I knew would kill me is my addiction to pop! I HATE water! I've been asked to drink at least 3 liters a day. I make it usually within 1/2 a liter and I have NO cravings for soda pop either! The headache I had on day 2 was no fun, but I took a pill and have been fine since.

The biggest surprise to me was reading food labels. My diet consists mostly of "raw" food, similar to a Paleo diet. But foods that I don't or can't get fresh I have to check labels and if it has any form of sugar as a main ingredient I can't have it. I was surprised to see how many things I used to eat that I thought were healthy had sugar in them! Even my light yogurt had sugar listed as the 2nd ingredient.

Tuesday and Wednesday I felt like I was starving! I don't know if it has to do with me still nursing or my body being in shock, but I had to up my protein snack by 1 on both days. I didn't cheat just had a little more protein than I did the rest of the week.

Saturday was my cheat meal for the week. My friend had a baby shower and I knew I wouldn't be able to resists eating with my friends. But I must say, the way I felt after I ate my meal (and I no way even came close to finishing my plate) didn't even make cheating worth it. Well maybe the cupcake and 3 cakeballs I had did :) But I really did feel crappy all day Sunday.

Speaking of Sunday, it was the first day that I really craved sweets. At our house, Sunday is a stuff your face lazy day and the tradition must be en grained in my body because all I could do was think of fun stuff to bake and eat! But we made it with no cheating thanks to a big bowl of sugar-free Jello.

My exercising is probably the hardest to do. Every morning I wake up I try to talk myself out of it, but somehow I always end up working out and I feel great after! I am supposed to do 30-40 minutes of cardio 3 times a week followed by an ab workout and 30-40 minutes of strength training 3 times a week. And I get 1 day off of exercising. I'm trying to switch up my workouts so I don't get too bored but I'm thinking I should stick to the same thing for a few weeks so I can do it easily and then move onto something new. I bought Zumba for the Wii and I love it but I look like a fool doing it! (Good thing I close the blinds) I walk on the treadmill at a full incline for 30 minutes once a week. I've been doing Pilates for 40 minutes and Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. I also have a Turbo Jam DVD I haven't done yet.

I pretty much got my trash kicked all week by all of these exercises. I hope by week 10 it will be the other way around.

Out of Pocket

I knew that having a baby would max out our insurance deductible and the kids have needed their tonsils out for a while so this was the year...
